26 Miles……….DONE! #4Ava

Yesterday Simon ran 26 miles. Yesterday £5000 was raised for Alder Hey. Yesterday was INCREDIBLE! (You can read about the run up to this amazing achievement here)

Simon had so much support at various stages of the Rock n Roll Liverpool Marathon and we were there to cheer him on at the finish line with his friends and family.  I have never been to a marathon before but the atmosphere was like nothing else.  Watching people, young and old, go down that home straight having given everything they had was emotional.  Seeing Simon approach the last leg of this adventure was seriously emotional.  Watching his little boys sprint to him the moment they saw him, watching him run arm in arm with his brother over the finish line and watching him have a moment proudly showing his medal and his #4Ava wristband was pretty damn special.

Kelly, Ava’s Mum, as always found the perfect words;

“Massive congratulations to Simon Heaney for completing the Liverpool Rock n Roll marathon #4Ava. He has raised a huge amount of money for Alder Hey, where the doctors and nurses of the Oncology Unit are giving such great care to Ava.

We are so grateful to Simon, everyone at Heaney Watson and all who have donated, donned tshirts, wristbands and ‘run simon run #4Ava’ banners to raise money for this great cause and more importantly raise awareness of childhood cancer.

As a family we have taken great strength in the support you have all given us and it helps to know that something good is coming out of this horrible experience.”

We will continue to support you and your family #4Ava.

Simon will tell his own story in his own words but in the meantime here are some photos ……

#4AvaWe gave all the amazing runners a good cheer as they passed us!#4Ava#4AvaRunning 26 miles in fancy dress. Wow!#4Ava#4Ava#4AvaWe spotted Simon’s family on the other side of the road……#4Ava….and they spotted us!#4AvaThere were some runners that really stood out.  First was Phil, one of my husband’s oldest friends, running for Claire House who helped his nephew, Henry. Cue mad screaming and cheering!!!#4AvaHand slap from the Heaneys!
#4Ava

This melts my heart.  This gentleman runner was seriously struggling and this lovely man saw and gave him a well deserved pat on the back and offered words of encouragement.
#4AvaThis mother’s utter pride in her daughter’s achievement#4AvaThis guy was incredible. He was running from his hips because his knees were obviously in agony.  He almost fell trying to run faster to the finish line.  He didn’t stop once.  He literally jumped to the finish line, incredible.#4AvaThe Heaneys#4AvaSearching for Simon!#4Ava#4AvaSimon’s wife thought she’d spotted him as he was wearing a yellow top…….#4Ava….realising she’d made a mistake!#4Ava#4Ava#4AvaHere he comes running side by side with his brother

And here she is, the beautiful, precious and brave Ava, with her gorgeous big brother, Alex, supporting you as you have supported her.  I think we can all agree that this wins the prize for the best “Run Simon Run” sign!

It’s not too late to offer your support, Simon’s just giving page #4Ava can be found here.
