WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

I’m based in South Liverpool and mainly do family and maternity sessions locally.  However, I am happy to travel and add on travel costs.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

I get asked this a lot and I always say whatever you feel comfortable in. I know there can be a big temptation to dress your children in their very best clothes. This is absolutely fine but if this is going to make you feel uneasy about them playing, climbing trees or jumping in puddles it may be better to chose something where they can do these things freely.

The only clothes that I tend to advise people against are things like football kits, heavily branded clothing and clothes with characters on as they can be really distracting and we want all of the attention to be of their lovely little faces!

WHAT IF IT RAINS?

This is something that is beyond all of our control so the best plan is to go with it.  Bring umbrellas and wear your wellies and enjoy some enthusiastic puddle jumping!  If your children are very little and it is forecasted continuous torrential rain we can of course discuss rearranging your shoot but a final decision can be made first thing on the morning of your shoot.

So, in a nutshell, provided we don’t have torrential rain all shoots can go ahead!

DO YOU TAKE GROUP FAMILY SHOTS?

Absolutely.  I know that for most families it is not often you get an opportunity to have a nice picture so your session is the perfect chance to get this.  Families who book me really want my documentary style to capture their family as they are so taking a picture of you altogether forms a really small part of your session. I tend to get everyone together after they’ve had a chance to settle in to the session so everyone is happy!

DO WE HAVE TO BE IN THE PHOTOS?

As with everything, you don’t have to do anything but if your children see you getting involved it is far more likely that they will. Also, it is very rare that parents get in the picture as they are usually the ones taking the pictures and so it’s always lovely to have you in them.  One of my favourite things is taking photos of parents and their children connecting. As with your little ones, I don’t expect you to perform or pose for me. Just play and interact as you usually would!

DO YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH CHILDREN WITH AUTISM AND ADHD?

Yes I do. I am a parent of a child with autism as well as having photographed a number of children with autism and/or ADHD so I have not personal and professional experience.  My sessions are for everyone so if your child is autistic or had ADHD just let me know when you book and explain how it affects them and we’ll go from there. I am personally very invested in ensuring that families who have children with autism receive photographs of their child as they know them. You can see more about that here.

WHAT IF MY CHILD ISN'T HAVING A GOOD DAY?

There can sometimes be a lot of pressure on little ones to be on excellent form to “perform” during photo sessions to get the “best” photographs. I say leave this at the door as it simply doesn’t work! Children are children and I photograph them authentically, as they are.  If they have a tantrum during the session it’s nothing I haven’t seen before. This is what children do and it’s all part of the journey!  If you let your children play how they want to and not be concerned about them messing up their clothes for the photos it really does make a big difference.  If your child is happier after they’ve eaten or had a nap lets arranged your session around that where possible.  If they like having a certain toy let them bring that. If they are more comfortable in a familiar environment lets do that.

I’m also pretty intuitive that some children are ready to be photographed from the second they see me and some need a little more time. Some children need high energy and other children are more comfortable just to be observed. This is absolutely fine. The more we both do to make it a positive experience the more likely it is that they will be more comfortable.

CAN WE ADD EXTRA PEOPLE TO OUR SESSION?

Yes you can! If you would like other people to your shoot such as grandparents or your siblings etc you can do so for an additional £25 per person. Just let me know when you’re booking or when you are due to pay for your session.

CAN WE BOOK YOU FOR LONGER?

Yes! If you would like a family day out at the beach photographed, a day of your holiday photographed or fancy a normal day in the life captured I can absolutely do this. I really enjoy doing these type of shoots. Alternatively, if you think your child will need longer than my standard session to settle into a session it is no problem to add on some moe time.  If you contact me I can provide you with a bespoke quote.

DO YOU DO BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY?

I do, but these are limited to a handful a year and I am only able to photograph births in Liverpool.  Giving birth is such a deeply personal and emotion experience so it is really important that we connect, have really good communication and clear boundaries to ensure that your birth experience is just how you want it to be. I consider my role during births to purely document your experience respectfully and from a distance and following your lead as to my involvement.  Birth stories are about the the process, the connection between you and your birth partner and, finally, meeting your baby for the first time.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO HAVE MATERNITY AND NEWBORN PHOTOS?

Everyone experiences pregnancy differently and the main thing is that you feel comfortable. For some people this can mean 32 weeks and for others it can be the week before their due date! As a guide the last 6 weeks of your pregnancy are usually when your bump will really pop  and so that is a great time for your session.

Again, with newborn session this also depends on how you and your baby are feeling. This will depend on the type of birth you had and how your first few days and weeks of parenthood are going. I will be completely guided by you on this.  I don’t pose babies or put them in positions that they don’t naturally go into and as such there are no time constraints as there can be with studio newborn photography.  If you want your session to capture the newborn stage I would recommend having your session within the first 3 weeks post birth (but don’t worry if this isn’t possible, we will still get beautiful shots!)

CAN YOU DO A DIFFERENT EDIT STYLE FOR US?

I’m afraid not.  My style of photography and my style of editing both form the final product that I deliver and are both as important as each other.  I like a clean and vibrant edit that will not date so that you love your photographs as much in 10 years as you did when you received them.

CAN WE BUY GIFT VOUCHERS?

You can. I have a lot of vey lovely people who buy gift vouchers for my family, maternity and lifestyle newborn sessions. They make brilliant gifts as birthday, Christmas or baby shower gifts.

CAN WE BUY PROFESSIONALLY PRINTED PRODUCTS FROM YOU?

Yes you can. There is the facility to order professionally printed photographs through your online gallery.  This is available to you and anyone that you share your password with. I always recommend that images are professionally printed.  This is to guarantee the same colours, contrast and sharpness that you see on your screen are replicated in print that I am yet to find on the high street or online.I use a professional lab that I have all of my own own pictures printed by and they are able to offer me a really competitive rate so are a very worthwhile investment.

I also offer wall art products and albums on request.

HOW DO WE BOOK?

To secure your date I will need you to pay a booking fee of £50. This is deducted from your final balance which is due a week before your session.
