When Emma and Ben contacted me last year to see if I was available to photograph their wedding at Chester Zoo I jumped at the chance. I have shot weddings at many venues but never a zoo! Emma and Ben are given an annual pass for Christmas each year by Emma’s Dad so it holds lots of lovely memories for them.
Emma and Ben wrote their own wedding vows to each other and are clearly so in tune with each other as many of their vows were the same. It was such an emotional service and a real celebration of what the day was all about.
Emma looked absolutely stunning and radiated pure happiness all day. She has an ongoing extreme reading challenge with one of her friends where they have a photograph taken of them reading in unlikely places. I think she is now going to be unbeatable! Ben is one of the funniest and most expressive grooms I’ve had the pleasure of photographing. He had me in stitches on the day and whilst editing. He also has the highest regard for a good colour coding system which is a subject close to my heart!
We ended the day with a safari around Chester Zoo once it had closed to the public. It was a surreal experience and one I won’t forget for many reasons. Emma and Ben love the jaguars but they are notorious for keeping their distance. So when we went into the pitch dark room to look at the turtles and sloth (named Tina!) we were blown away when one of the jaguars came up to the glass window to say hello. We were so scared to move in case it frightened him away but I managed to push my camera to the limit and get some images of him. There aren’t many people who can say they have had their picture taken with a jaguar on their wedding day!
Emma and Ben, thank you so much for choosing me to capture your wedding day. It was a real privilege. Here are your best bits.
